Why I Left my old Church and Became a Seventh-Day Adventist
I've attended the Four Square Church for more than 22 years and before that I've attended Assembly of God, Baptist, Presbyterian and other Christian non-denominational, as well as, some "New Age" churches just to see what they were like.
But... for quite some time I've been feeling that the Christian church, as a whole, have been drifting away from sound Biblical truth. Much of the teachings taught in most Protestant churches today, do not line up with what the Bible Scriptures truly teach.
There are so many different interpretations of Biblical topics or concepts in Christian circles today... And many seem to contradict each other. For an example simply watch TBN, CBN or any Christian station and listen to what is preached about the The Rapture, The Anti-Christ, The Mark of the Beast, The Tribulation Period - (i.e. Pre, Mid, Post Tribulation beliefs), Eternal Hellfire, the State of the Dead, The Millennium and even End Time Bible Prophecy as it pertains to today. You will find that most ministers have differing ideas of these important Bible concepts.
Since my background is in a spirit filled church, it's quite common to see fellow believers seek the Gifts of the Spirit. This is fine, but what I've seen on many occasions were many Christians seeking the Gifts of the Spirit not to help the rest of the church, but rather to get recognition from other Christians of how spiritual an individual was. I suppose this happens in all churches where some who attend church, attend for the recognition of Man and not God.
Over the course of my Christian walk, I've gone to many Charismatic events and most were very uplifting but some, to put it bluntly, were similar to entering an amusement park where those seeking the Gifts of the Spirit were analogous to those seeking thrill rides or experiences. But even with some shortcomings in the Charismatic Christian circle, I was very happy with the Four Square Denomination and on a side note, deciding to leave the Four Square Church was really an accident rather than an active conscious act of looking for another church.
While watching a cable channel one night, I stumbled upon a station called, Three Angels Broadcasting Network (3ABN), on my Verizon FIOS Cable. What I noticed on this channel was that Biblical teachings were very easy to understand and were very plumb line with Bible scripture. Bible scripture was used, in context, to interpret Bible scripture which made Bible truths come alive and made them easy to grasp. 3ABN was able to prove that Bible Prophecy in the books of Revelation and Daniel were shown to be linked with known and indisputable historical facts which displays the true accuracy of the Bible as a book of prophecy. Every pastor on this channel made complete sense and was fully Christ centered. I found their explanations of Biblical topics and concepts crystal clear in meaning as opposed to the variant teachings of the rest of Christendom.
This channel had clear answers to questions I've always had about The AntiChrist, The Mark of the Beast, The truth about Hell, what 666 actually means, what or who the false prophet in Revelation is, what the image of the Beast truly is, the truth about what happens after Death, The Rapture, what Babylon represents in our current day church, and even the United States role in Bible Prophecy.
Have you ever wondered why the United States is not mentioned or implied anywhere in God's plan? After all, the United States is the most powerful nation to ever exist in the human experience. Well the USA is part of God's prophetic movement and the United States role in End Time Bible prophecy is laid out and revealed in detail in the book of Revelation. To say I was shocked and saddened is an understatement when I understood what role the USA plays on the world stage at the end of time. Here is a small glimpse...
|(Revelation 13:11) And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.|
To show you a few truths I found from 3ABN, I'll ask you a question. The Bible says in Matthew 24:40...
EXPOSING: The False Teaching of "The Secret Rapture"
|(Matthew 24:40) Then shall two be in the field; the one shall be taken, and the other left|
Question: For those familiar with the Rapture, which one do you want to be. The One Left or the One Taken?
I guarantee... you do not want to be the one taken. Look what Jesus says in Matthew 24 about who was taken and who was left at the flood. The church teaches that God's people will be taken in the Rapture. The church has it backwards In other words, we are being taught an error. The doctrine of the Rapture also teaches that those taken will not have to go through the Tribulation period referred to in Revelation.
The teaching of the Rapture is taken out of context and is a doctrinal error. The errant Rapture concept is in reality referring to the Second Coming of Jesus. Also notice that God's people will in fact have to go through the Tribulation. See Revelation 7:13,14 in the inset below.
|(Matthew 24:37) For just like the days of Noah were, so the coming of the Son of Man will be.
(Matthew 24:38) For in those days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day Noah entered the ark.
(Matthew 24:39) And they knew nothing until the flood came and took them all away. It will be the same at the coming of the Son of Man.
(Genesis 7:23) And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
(Revelation 7:13) Then one of the elders answered, saying to me, "Who are these arrayed in white robes, and where did they come from?"
(Revelation 7:14) And I said to him, "Sir, you know." So he said to me, "These are the ones who come out of the great tribulation, and washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb."
For a quick 1000 foot view, here is the core of this errant Rapture teaching...
"Those teaching the rapture theory teach that the coming of Jesus will be in two separate stages. The first stage will be a secret rapture of the Church at the beginning of a seven year tribulation period followed by a glorious, triumphant return of Christ to the Earth accompanied by the Church at the end of the seven year period. They believe that during this seven year period the Antichrist is going to come into power and God will select and seal 144,000 literal Jews who will take the Gospel to the whole world converting immeasurable souls to Christ."
For a better and much deeper explanation of this Rapture error, check out the link below called, "The Secret Rapture".
These and other topics were easy to grasp by the teachings taught on this channel... AND... The truths I learned on this station were truths I've never heard anywhere else. I was amazed and wondered why other churches or denominations seemed to be oblivious to these Biblical truths, and I'm not referring to private interpretations or secret hidden knowledge...
|2 Peter 1:20 - knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture came into being of its own private interpretation.|
I now realize that the many times I felt church teachings didn't line up with scripture, I was right. The Protestant Church has embraced many Man made doctrines and errors, without knowing it!
After viewing 3ABN for awhile I found out that this channel was a Seventh-day Adventist station. Now for some reason I used to think that the Seventh-day Adventist - (SDA) church was a legalistic cult or fanatical sect of Christians but I have since found my beliefs about this denomination to be totally wrong. I find their teachings well balanced and Biblically correct. I also thought Seventh-day Adventists - (SDA) were called this because they chose to worship on Saturday instead of Sunday. This is partly true, but their reason for worshipping on the Sabbath is Biblically based and I fully understand and agree with their reason for worshipping on this day. SDA are called Adventists because they believe in the Advent of Christ, or in the soon second coming of Jesus.
It's not hard to see why Satan would want others to think that the SDA is a cult, which again, is what I used to believe... After all, the truths that are taught in the SDA church exposes Satan's lies, plans and deceptions. The SDA church exposes the false doctrines and myths that Satan has successfully planted in current day Catholic and Protestant churches.
To illustrate how far today's churches have drifted from Biblical Truth here are just a couple of examples that are taught today:
Question: Do we go to Heaven or Hell after we die?
Answer: The Bible shows that when we die, we go to neither, but rather are "Asleep" in the grave until the resurrection.
Churches today teach that when we die we go either to Heaven or Hell, but this teaching does not line up with what the Bible teaches. Check out the link below...
Here is another error that is taught... and this was a hard one for me to grasp... But I had to change from my beliefs after learning what the Bible truly teaches about this errant doctrine taught in the church...
Question: Will the Lost and Wicked suffer torment through-out the ceaseless ages of Eternity in Hell Fire?
Answer: Here is a clear example of how God's character is being smeared in churches today. The Bible does not teach this doctrine. Period! The Bible teaches that the Wicked will be destroyed into ashes never to exist again. Their destruction is an Eternal destruction, just not their torment. See Malachi 4:1-3 below.
|(Malachi 4:1) For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch.
(Malachi 4:2) But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
(Malachi 4:3) And ye shall tread down the wicked; for they shall be ashes under the soles of your feet in the day that I shall do this, saith the LORD of hosts.
When the wicked are cast into the Lake of Fire their torture is not eternal but rather the effects of their destruction is eternal in the sense of its results. The wicked will be burned up completely, to cease existence and to never exist again.
This is a Satanic lie designed to control you by fear and to cast a bad light on the true character of God... This doctrine is a misinterpretation of scripture. See link --- The Truth about Hell Fire
Satan definitely doesn't want you to know the forgotten Biblical truths taught by the SDA church which was once known by both the Catholic and Protestant churches. Don't buy Satan's lies that the SDA church is a cult, it is not. A cult is a group that does not follow Bible teachings and supplements another book in place of the Bible. The SDA believe and follow only what the Bible teaches and not man made doctrine.
Note: If you do research into the Seventh-day Adventist, you'll fully understand their reasons for Sabbath observance and you will also discover many errors that run rampant in other churches. Out of love for God, Adventists simply want to follow what God has revealed in the Bible and not Man made doctrines. Now to some this may sound strict or legalistic, but following what God wants and living up to His wishes in not legalism, it's love for God... and remember, legalism is instituted by Man and Not God.
Also, legalism is when you must do something a certain way in order to help secure your salvation or to keep from losing your salvation. In other words, it is a form of "Works". Legalism totally takes away from Christ's finished work on the cross and adds something you must do in order to help with your salvation. Beware of legalism.
Many years ago, the SDA found themselves trapped by legalism and today teach that ANY works or action one takes for salvation, is error. SDA believe and preach that salvation only comes by "Faith" through the "Finished" work of Christ on the Cross of Calvary.
Please don't get legalism mixed up with right actions. Many believe that works help in our salvation... but in reality, if we love God our works will be an outcropping of our love for Him.
|(James 2:17) Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.
(James 2:18) But someone will say, "You have faith, and I have works." Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.
(James 2:19) You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble!
(James 2:20) But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead? (NKJV)
If your church is teaching any of these errors, you need to wake up. You need to come out of that church and find a church that exposes these and other errors believed in today's churches.
Now in case you're wondering why the Seventh-day Adventist worship on Saturday instead of Sunday, it is because this was the day that God Himself established in the Fourth Commandment to "Remember" as His day of worship. The reason God wants us to worship on the 7th day is so we will not forget that the Sabbath was set aside by Him as the day of rest after God had completed all Creation. In other words, the Sabbath day was chosen and blessed by God so we will remember His Creation and that He alone is the Creator of all things. Only through God, is our salvation and justification granted. Who has authority to issue Salvation and justification will be an End Time question. This is why the issue of Sabbath v.s. Sunday observance will be at the forefront of this End Time debate.
The reason churches today worship on Sunday is because in 321A.D. Constantine the Great established the observance of Sunday as a legal duty, enacting that all courts of justice, inhabitants of towns, and workshops were to be at rest on Sunday, "vernerable day of the sun", (venerabili die solis), with an exception in favor of those engaged in agricultural labor. ("Encyclopedia Britannica, 11th ed., art. "Sunday"). The Roman Catholic Church adopted this day of Sunday observance as well in order to bring pagan worshippers into the Christian church and to accommodate pagan religious practices, the culture of that time.
I will also mention that the Catholic Papacy also removed the 2nd Commandment, i.e. not to worship idols, from the Catholic Catechism; then divided the 10th Commandment into two commandments to make up for the removal of the 2nd Commandment. This was done to reflect the correct number of commandments for the 10 Commandments - See 10 Commandments link below (The Catholic Catechism is the book used to teach new Catholic converts doctrines and beliefs of the Roman Catholic church.)
Note: Please, please, please understand I am NOT bashing my Catholic friends, but rather shedding light on the apostasy in their teachings and Papal system. Many of God's people are now in the Catholic Church and are serving God by living up to all the light they have. So understand I love and have friends who are Catholic and even my sister was Catholic.
The Catholic Church has since made claim that the act of changing God's day of worship is their Mark of authority over religious matters and shows that they can change the Laws of God. Now I ask you, can Man really change the Laws of God?
|(Daniel 7:25) And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.|
There is no directive from God anywhere in the Bible to change the day of worship from Saturday to Sunday and since the Catholic Church stands on tradition and disregards Bible scripture, I chose to follow the Bible rather than the dictates of the Catholic Mother Church and errant teachings practiced in my old church.
After the Protestant Reformation, churches unknowingly adopted the Papal day of worship, Sunday, even though God has made it clear that His day of worship is the 7th day, Saturday. Protestantism also brought along many Man made beliefs and errors from the Catholic Church which have no foundation or truth found from or in Bible scripture.
Most Protestant churches today teach that when Christ died on the cross, he did away with the Law, or 10 Commandments. It's believed that the Law of God was 'nailed' to the cross at Jesus' death. But Jesus didn't do away with the Law, but rather he made null the "ceremonial law" i.e. animal sacrifices, etc.. The church mistakenly teaches that the Law of God, the Ten Commandments, was "Nailed" to the cross and this isn't true.

I could say more here, but I won't since this is supposed to be a letter explaining why I changed my church affiliation and is not meant to be a sermon.
I've really enjoyed meeting other SDA believers and find they are not the strict religious zealots I thought they were. They are just like you and I and are dedicated to following Jesus in the manner He directs us to. They simply do not follow man's religious traditions but rather the dictates of Bible Scripture.
Now I want to make this perfectly clear, I am not trying to cast bad light on the Foursquare denomination. I love the friends and people I've met while attending the Foursquare Church, but after learning the truths taught by the Seventh Day Adventist, some mentioned above, I could not in good conscious continue fellowship in the Foursquare Church or any Protestant church other than the SDA. The Bible says to worship God in Spirit and Truth and current day Catholic and Protestant churches are not doing this.
(Mark 7:7) Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.
I am also not proselytizing for the SDA Church, although I've found they have the clearest and most truthful grasp of Biblical teachings. I strongly urge others to compare their beliefs and teachings with that of the SDA Denomination. I believe you will also find surprising and amazing truths like I did in SDA Biblical teachings.
Addendum: After setting under the teachings of the SDA for over a couple of years now, I have to say that their Biblical teachings are the best and most accurate I have ever experienced in all my Christian walk. The Biblical truths that God has given to the SDA is amazing. I wish I had been brought up in this denomination because I would not have gone through so much confusion about Biblical topics or doctrines in my Christian walk. Please do yourself a favor and check out what SDA teach. You will be amazed with the truths that God has revealed to this prophetic End Time church.
It is also important to note... To refute those who say that the SDA teach they are the only church you can be saved in, this is not true...
From the beginning of my involvement with the SDA church, SDA teach that Revelation speaks about those who are in Babylon... These are those who do not know they are in a Christian apostate system...or church that is teaching error and not Biblical truth. These people of God are living up to the light or knowledge of God to the best of their abilities. SDA DO NOT believe they are the only church that God has His people in.
In fact I found that I, myself, was in Babylon, i.e. errant doctrines and teachings, and didn't know it. It wasn't until I read, studied and understood Revelation 14:6-12 (The Three Angels' Messages) and Revelation18:4, that I left my old church...
In Revelation 18:4, God is calling His Last Day People to Come out of Babylon. See scripture below. Again, SDA believe that God has His people in all Catholic and Protestant churches, not just in the SDA church. God's Last Day call to His people is to come out of Any church that is not teaching Biblical truth, but instead are teaching errors.... and that is why I became a Seventh-day Adventist. The SDA church is teaching Bible truths.
|(Revelation 18:2) And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.
(Revelation 18:3) For all nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, and the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth are waxed rich through the abundance of her delicacies. (Wine = False Doctrines)
(Revelation 18:4) And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues.
Note: Definition of Wine was added for clarification
If you are trusting Jesus, then check out for yourself what I have written in this text. The Holy Spirit will guide you into truth. Speaking of the Holy Spirit...
(John 16:13) Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Why I Changed Churches
I grew up as Christian Protestant but never really understood what that meant. Throughout my teenage years and early adulthood I was looking for many things to fill my emptiness but nothing filled the void.
After learning my son had autism in 2003 I was told by a friend about this church that had an autism class for kids so their parents could attend service. That is why I joined what I thought was a Bible based church. I was baptized in 2006.
After hearing about the secret rapture in church and finding out later from someone else that it is a false doctrine all within the same month I began to question what I was being taught in church.
This church also teaches the Lord’s day is Sunday.
I learned how the Bible teaches us the exact way to worship God His way, as well as, the importance of keeping the commandments along with the testimony of Jesus in these last days.
My Pastor was willing to listen to my requests to:
1. Change church to Saturday
2. Quit teaching people that they will fly away to save their souls.
But he did not agree to implement the changes.
The decision to leave and find a church that teaches the truth has lead me to the Seventh Day Adventist church. God will make a way where there seems to be no way.
Having an autistic son has been a huge blessing a gift from God. I know that in Him all things are possible.
That is how I made my decision to change churches.
